Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro stated on Sunday that he has not considered appointing his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, to a government position if he wins the upcoming election. Jair Bolsonaro, who has been under house arrest since 2023, faces charges related to an alleged coup attempt following his defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the 2022 presidential race.

In an interview, Flavio Bolsonaro, a prominent right-wing politician and Jair Bolsonaro’s son, said his father has never expressed interest in serving in government under his potential administration. "He has never suggested that he would like to work in the government... he has never raised the subject with me, so it's not on the radar," Flavio said.

Flavio also dismissed speculation about appointing his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro as foreign minister. Eduardo, 42, resigned from his position as a member of Congress the previous year when he relocated to the United States. In June 2026, Eduardo was sentenced in absentia to more than four years in prison after encouraging U.S. sanctions on Brazil during the ongoing trial surrounding his father's coup accusations.

Despite the controversy surrounding his family, Flavio Bolsonaro remains determined to end what he called the “Lula era” in Brazilian politics. The three Bolsonaro family members have played influential roles in recent political developments, with each facing legal challenges amid ongoing investigations into efforts to overturn the 2022 presidential election results.

The upcoming presidential election is poised to be closely watched, as Flavio Bolsonaro campaigns to restore his family’s influence within Brazil’s government and redirect the country’s political trajectory.
