Emergency services responded early Saturday morning to a disturbance involving a group of men in Adelaide’s central business district. At approximately 5 a.m., police were alerted to a brawl on Hindley Street, prompting officers to attend the scene. While speaking with individuals involved, a 22-year-old man from Blair Athol fled on foot, leading police on a pursuit through nearby streets.

The man was tracked via the city’s closed-circuit television system as he headed toward the Riverbank precinct, where he unexpectedly jumped into the River Torrens. Shortly after, police officers on patrol heard him calling for help from the water. Three officers promptly entered the river to assist, managing to keep the man’s head above the water until additional backup arrived and helped pull him to safety.

Emergency personnel transported the man to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The officers involved were examined by paramedics at the scene and found to be unharmed.

Authorities continue to investigate the initial altercation on Hindley Street that led to the incident.
