Two suspicious bags discovered near the main entrance of Disneyland in Anaheim on Monday evening prompted a large-scale security response, including a park evacuation and a bomb squad investigation.

Officials were alerted around 9:50 p.m. when Disneyland security identified two unattended bags positioned near a roundabout. According to Sgt. Eric Anderson of the Anaheim Police Department, one bag contained marbles and visible wires, while the other was sealed with duct tape and had sharp objects protruding from it. One of the bags was resting on a dolly.

As a precaution, officers directed visitors to exit the park through an alternate route and requested assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad. The bomb squad conducted a thorough examination of the suspicious items and later determined that the bags did not pose any explosive threat. Safety officials concluded the items were harmless shortly before midnight.

Authorities suspect the bags were deliberately placed to appear threatening, but the motive and identity of the individual or individuals responsible remain under investigation. Anaheim police continue to seek information to help identify those involved.
