Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, renowned for her distinctive husky voice and enduring hits such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” has maintained a vibrant music career spanning several decades. Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, in 1951, Tyler’s rise to fame began in the mid-1970s and has continued with international touring and album releases.

Tyler’s career took off after she was signed by RCA Records in 1975, following years of work as a backing vocalist and performances under different stage names. After initially releasing the single “Lost in France” in 1976, she underwent surgery for vocal cord nodules, which resulted in the unique gravelly quality of her voice that became her signature sound. Her breakthrough in the U.S. came in 1977 with the hit “It’s a Heartache,” which reached number four on the UK charts and number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her 1983 release, “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” produced after her transition to CBS/Columbia Records, marked a peak in her commercial success. The power ballad, originally over seven minutes long before being shortened for radio play, sold more than six million copies and topped charts internationally. Tyler has described the song as portraying intense emotional longing and connected its creation to songwriter Jim Steinman’s earlier, unfinished work for a musical project.

Tyler’s fifth studio album, *Faster Than the Speed of Night*, debuted at number one in the UK and achieved platinum status in the United States. During the 1990s, she found particular success in mainland Europe, with albums like *Bitterblue* gaining commercial traction in Austria and Norway, even as the album was not released in the UK or US. Her popularity continued into the 2000s, especially in France.

In 2013, Tyler represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Believe in Me,” finishing 19th. She expressed satisfaction with her performance and positive outlook following the contest.

Throughout her career, Tyler has released 18 studio albums and earned multiple award nominations, including three Grammy and three Brit Awards nods. She was honored with an MBE in 2023 for her contributions to music. Her most recent album, *The Best Is Yet to Come*, was released in 2021.

Tyler’s personal life includes her marriage to Olympian judo athlete Robert Sullivan in 1973. The couple split their time between residences in Swansea, Wales, and Portugal. Despite the longevity of her career, Tyler continues to tour internationally, performing her classic hits alongside newer material. She has conveyed a lasting enthusiasm for her work, particularly her iconic songs, which remain fan favorites at concerts worldwide.

Looking ahead, Tyler had scheduled performances in Europe, including Malta’s SummerLUST music festival and tour dates across Germany, Hungary, Scotland, and Turkey, reflecting her continued presence on the global music stage.
