Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler’s team plans to release a previously unheard Christmas single titled "Love, Light & Peace," recorded shortly before her death in July at age 75. The track, intended as a festive message to her fans, marks one of the final recordings by the artist, whose career spanned several decades.
Tyler entered the studio last winter with David Mackay, her longtime producer, to record the song written by Chrissie Hammond and Terry Britten, the latter known for penning Tina Turner’s hit "What’s Love Got to Do With It." Although the track was not initially slated for immediate release, Mackay, along with Tyler’s husband Robert Sullivan and talent scout Roger Bell, decided to share it in time for the holiday season.
Sullivan described the release as a meaningful way to honor his wife’s legacy and maintain her presence among audiences. “I feel so close to Bonnie,” he said, emphasizing that the song's message and Tyler’s unique energy captured the spirit of the season. Sullivan expressed confidence that fans would appreciate the new single and saw it as a fitting tribute.
Mackay recounted how the intimate recording session included an impromptu closing line from Tyler—“To all, goodnight”—which Sullivan found particularly moving. Tyler had lived for many years in Portugal, where she passed away on July 8 following complications from emergency intestinal surgery and an induced coma.
While Tyler had previously recorded holiday music, including the 1989 release "Merry Christmas" for the film *Deadly Games* and a cover of "Silent Night" in 1998, she had resisted producing a full Christmas album, expressing concerns about commercialism. However, she embraced the heartfelt message in "Love, Light & Peace," which closes with the wish: “I wish you love, light and peace this Christmas Day.”
Tyler was known for her deep fondness for Christmas, hosting large gatherings at her Welsh home near Swansea, where she and Sullivan would entertain hundreds of guests each year. Roger Bell described the festive celebrations and expressed that this year’s holiday would feel bittersweet without her presence.
The new single will be released on Friday as a final musical offering from the beloved singer, leaving fans with a poignant reminder of her enduring voice and spirit.
