M. John Harrison, the 81-year-old British author known for his contributions to science fiction and fantasy literature, has been nominated for the Booker Prize for the first time. Renowned primarily for his Viriconium series, Harrison was long-listed this year for his novel *The End of Everything*. If successful, he would become the oldest recipient of the prestigious literary award.

The 2026 Booker long list features a total of 13 authors, including newcomers Djamel White, Kenan Orhan, and Rebecca Perry. Established writers such as Elizabeth Strout, a three-time nominee, and Marlon James, a previous winner, are also among the contenders. Douglas Stuart, another former winner, has again secured a place on the long list.

The selection was made by a judging panel chaired by Dame Mary Beard, a noted classicist. The list will be narrowed down to a shortlist of six authors, which is expected to be announced in September. The ultimate winner of the Booker Prize will be revealed on November 9.
