Six Malaysian university students have been awarded the inaugural Impact Talent Scholarships by PwC Malaysia, a programme launched earlier this year aimed at nurturing future professionals in accounting, finance, and technology fields critical to the country’s economic growth and digital transformation. The scholarships provide financial assistance, leadership development, mentorship, and early exposure to the professional services environment.
The six recipients—Jasmine Chin Jia Yee, a 20-year-old computer science first-year at Universiti Malaya; Mohamad Hariz Hezriq Mohamad Firus and Muhammad Naif Izhar Arif, both 21 and first-year accounting students at Universiti Teknologi Mara Puncak Alam; Nicole Chin Zi Qi, 21, a second-year computer science student at Multimedia University; Rameya Lingam Gounder, 20, a first-year accounting major at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris; and Theevendran N. Ravinderan, 20, a first-year accounting student at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia—were selected through a competitive process involving digital screening and interviews with PwC leadership.
During an awards ceremony held on August 22, PwC Malaysia managing partner Soo Hoo Khoon Yean emphasized the importance of investing in young talent as a strategic move for Malaysia’s future. He described the scholarship recipients as embodying the determination and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation. “When we invest in education and create pathways for young people in our community to realise their potential, we strengthen the foundations for a more resilient, innovative and inclusive Malaysia,” Soo Hoo said.
Nurul A’in Abdul Latif, PwC Malaysia’s executive chair, highlighted that the initiative extends beyond financial aid to creating an environment conducive to talent development. She underscored the programme’s commitment to providing mentorship, practical learning experiences, and early career exposure to facilitate social mobility and leadership growth among promising students.
The scholarship is open to Malaysian citizens aged 18 to 25 at the time of application, who are enrolled in local universities and demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership capabilities, and dedication to personal growth. Eligibility criteria also include family income thresholds, with consideration for applicants from households earning a single monthly income below RM6,000 or a total household income below RM10,000.
In addition to covering educational expenses, the programme offers scholars internships at PwC Malaysia, opportunities to expand professional networks, and access to structured development and upskilling activities. Recipients commit to a four-year bond with PwC upon graduation, enabling them to apply their skills and continue their professional development within the firm.
