Boreham Wood extended their lead at the top of the National League with a commanding 4-0 victory over AFC Fylde on Saturday, marking their seventh consecutive win this season. The match took place at Boreham Wood’s home ground in front of a crowd of 1,201 spectators.
Zak Brunt was the standout performer for Luke Garrard’s side, scoring twice in the 31st and 55th minutes. Tylor Golden and Jay Bird also contributed goals, with Golden scoring in the 40th minute and Bird adding a third goal just before halftime in the 43rd minute. The result helped Boreham Wood maintain a seven-point cushion at the summit of the league table.
The match began with AFC Fylde controlling possession and creating early chances. Millar Matthews-Lewis tested Boreham Wood goalkeeper Ted Curd, who made a crucial save to keep the game scoreless in the opening stages. Fylde continued to apply pressure, with Luca Thomas narrowly missing the target and Danny Mayor shooting off target in quick succession.
Despite Fylde’s early dominance, Boreham Wood capitalized on a well-timed opportunity in the 31st minute. A precise pass from Chris Bush found Brunt, who dribbled past a defender and scored the opening goal. A potential penalty for Wood followed shortly after when Bird was fouled inside the box, but Brunt’s resulting spot-kick was sent over the crossbar.
Boreham Wood then took control of the game, doubling their lead when Golden headed in a cross from Tarryn Allarakhia in the 40th minute. Bird sealed the first-half scoring for the hosts with a well-executed finish three minutes later.
In response, Fylde manager Craig Mahon made four substitutions at halftime in an attempt to shift momentum, but Boreham Wood continued to dominate. Their fourth goal arrived in the 55th minute after Golden dispossessed a Fylde defender and passed to Brunt, who scored his second of the match.
Although Fylde pushed for a response, including a strong save from Curd denying loanee Luke McCormick, Boreham Wood’s defense remained solid throughout the second half. The match ended without any disciplinary incidents, with Boreham Wood committing eight fouls to Fylde’s thirteen, and only one yellow card shown to the hosts.
Following the match, Garrard praised both teams for their performance under challenging conditions and highlighted the quality of his squad. “Credit to both teams to play in those conditions. To go and beat a really good Fylde side 4-0 is excellent. It took us a while to get going but when we took the lead we were excellent,” he said.
Boreham Wood will look to continue their unbeaten run as the National League season progresses, while Fylde will seek to regroup and bounce back in upcoming fixtures.
