Peterborough United secured a late 2-2 draw against Burton Albion in a League One encounter at London Road Stadium on Saturday, extending manager Robbie Savage’s unbeaten run in his first home league match. The game featured dramatic shifts in momentum, highlighted by a late equaliser from Matthew Garbett to deny Burton a victory.

The visitors took an early lead through Owura Edwards, who scored inside the second minute, converting a cross from Harry Leonard. Peterborough appeared in control during the opening stages, with Garbett’s side pressing effectively. Burton responded, however, with Charlie Webster levelling thanks to a deflected strike that found the back of the net before halftime.

The second half continued with high intensity, as both teams created chances. Burton’s Matthew Dennis hit the post, while Peterborough captain Carl Johnston missed a notable opportunity. Substitutes also stirred the action, with Gbemi Arubi delivering a spectacular goal from near the halfway line in the 89th minute to put Burton ahead. Yet Peterborough refused to settle for defeat. In stoppage time, Garbett capitalised on a rebound from a Vernon Masara cross, securing a vital point for the home side.

Savage praised his team’s resilience and character after the match. “This team has been behind this season, and people have called them weak, feeble and fragile, but they’ve shown today they’re not,” he said. He highlighted the side’s pressing and work ethic, particularly in the second half, emphasizing the attitude and desire they displayed despite the disappointment of dropping points.

Burton manager Gary Bowyer acknowledged his team’s positive approach but expressed frustration with defensive lapses that cost them the win. “I thought we played very well, we were brave and we got through them several times,” he said. “It’s just that final third, not making the run or not taking the shot or the decision making, but in terms of how we played and played through them, it was good.” Bowyer added that the goals conceded—particularly poor marking in the box and wide areas—fell below the standards he expects.

The draw maintains Peterborough’s unbeaten streak under Savage and leaves Burton searching for more clinical finishing and defensive solidity as the League One campaign continues.
