Boswell College International in Kalutara marked its 20th anniversary in 2024, reflecting two decades of educational development and growth since its establishment in January 2004. Founded by Justice Ranjit Dheeraratne, the school began with a modest enrolment of two students and two teachers in Ethegama, Payagala. It has since expanded into a comprehensive institution serving approximately 1,850 students with a faculty of over 150 teachers.
The school relocated in 2015 to a purpose-built campus, designed to support both academic and extracurricular pursuits. Facilities now include modern classrooms, science and IT laboratories, language rooms equipped with smart boards, a library, auditorium, and an examination hall, alongside recreational spaces such as a playground. Recent additions comprise a swimming pool complex, with plans underway to introduce a gymnasium and badminton court, further emphasizing the school’s commitment to promoting physical education.
Boswell College International delivers both the local National Curriculum and the Cambridge Curriculum from primary through Advanced Level, operating as a registered Cambridge International School (Centre Number LK156). The institution also functions as a preparation centre for Cambridge English Qualifications, enabling students to obtain internationally recognised language certifications. This dual curriculum structure offers pathways tailored to both national and global academic standards.
Beyond conventional classroom education, the school offers a broad range of extracurricular activities. Sports clubs include swimming, badminton, athletics, karate, cricket, netball, football, and chess, contributing to student development in areas such as teamwork and discipline. The Scouting Club actively participates in district and all-island competitions, while cultural and creative programmes allow students to compete at national events organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs and local authorities in Kalutara.
Student achievements reflect the school’s holistic approach. Many have attained high marks in both National and Cambridge examinations, with some earning top positions at the country level. Additionally, students have represented the school in numerous sporting and cultural arenas at district, national, and international competitions.
In 2025, Boswell College International expanded to include a dedicated Kindergarten wing designed to support early childhood education. This facility features specialized rooms for activities such as music, dance, storytelling, and play-based learning, as well as health and kitchen areas, fostering well-rounded development for younger learners.
Looking ahead, the institution continues to prioritize upgrading its infrastructure and educational resources in alignment with its mission to nurture confident, capable individuals. Guided by its motto, “Lux et Veritas Floreant – Let Light and Truth Flourish,” Boswell College International aims to prepare students not only for academic success but also for meaningful participation in a globalised society.
