A boy sustained a minor injury after being struck by a falling bolt while waiting in line for the Hyperia rollercoaster at Thorpe Park in Chertsey, Surrey. The incident occurred on Sunday near the ride, which is the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the United Kingdom, standing at 236 feet and reaching speeds of 81 mph.
According to witnesses, a metallic object fell from the ride structure, bouncing off a support before hitting the boy on the shoulder. His mother reportedly approached staff with the bolt to alert them of the situation. First aid was administered on site for the minor injury.
Following the incident, Hyperia was closed temporarily for several hours to allow a full safety inspection. Merlin Entertainments, the company that owns Thorpe Park, confirmed that the closure was in line with standard health and safety procedures and that a specialist team conducted a thorough examination of the attraction before it reopened.
No further injuries or damages have been reported, and the park has not provided additional details on the cause of the loose bolt. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
