Brian Kiprop Kipglagat, the boyfriend of a banking executive who was fatally assaulted in her south-east London home, has been arrested in Kenya after over a year on the run. Kipglagat was detained by immigration officials on June 10 while attempting to cross from Kenya into Tanzania at Namanga.
His girlfriend, Marianne Kilonzi, 43, a vice-president at Citibank, was found dead in her Woolwich residence on January 17 of the previous year. A post-mortem examination determined that she died from blunt force trauma to the head. Neighbors at the Royal Arsenal Riverside complex, where the average property price is approximately £442,000, reported hearing “blood-curdling screams” on the day of her death.
Following the discovery of Ms. Kilonzi’s body, Metropolitan Police launched an international manhunt for Kipglagat, who was believed to have fled the United Kingdom shortly after the incident. Authorities tracked his movements through undercover operations, eventually leading to his arrest by Kenyan officers acting on a request from the Metropolitan Police.
Kipglagat appeared before Milimani law courts in Nairobi on June 12 in connection with the alleged murder. Kenyan prosecutors are currently awaiting a formal extradition request from British officials to proceed with transferring him to the UK.
Representatives from the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service declined to comment on the extradition or ongoing investigation, citing operational sensitivities. The Home Office has also been contacted but has yet to issue a statement.
