Md Nurul Amin, an executive engineer at the Bangladesh Power Development Board’s (BPDB) Sales and Distribution Division in Laxmipur, has been suspended following the circulation of a video showing him allegedly demanding bribes from a contractor. The suspension was issued Monday under Rule 141 (1) of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (Employees) Service Rules, 1982, in an order signed by Md Kausar Ahmed Opu, assistant director-3 of BPDB’s Investigation and Discipline Department.

The video, which surfaced on social media Sunday night, reportedly captures Amin engaging in conversations about project materials, contractors' bills, and financial transactions. In the approximately 8 minute and 50 second clip, he is heard setting a bribe threshold of at least Tk 2 crore, stating, “I won’t accept anything under Tk 2 crore.” The footage also includes Amin explaining calculations related to the misappropriation of goods, suggesting that the contractor had embezzled Tk 5 crore worth of materials and demanding Tk 2 crore in return to approve payments.

Further segments of the video show Amin accepting cash from unidentified individuals whose faces remain obscured behind a hidden camera. During this exchange, Amin queries the amount of money handed over, with one individual responding that Tk 35,000 is present, while also acknowledging a previous payment of Tk 1 lakh.

Attempts to contact Md Nurul Amin at his office over two days were unsuccessful, with his mobile phone reportedly switched off. Sources indicate that after the video gained widespread attention, Amin briefly entered his office Monday morning but left shortly thereafter and did not return. He remained at home for the rest of the day and did not respond to media inquiries. It was also reported that he vacated his official residence that evening. The BPDB has initiated disciplinary procedures following the incident.
