Birla Public School in Doha hosted the Grand Finale of BPS Pi Nova – 2026, an inter-school mathematics competition, on October 17 at the Basant Kumar Birla Auditorium. The event brought together students from Indian schools across Qatar, offering a platform for young mathematical talents to demonstrate their skills in logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
The competition was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Dinesh Kumar Koul, attaché (Commerce) at the Indian embassy in Qatar, who served as the chief guest. Dr. Koul praised the participants for their mathematical abilities and urged them to nurture their talents to contribute constructively to the development of both their native and host countries. Other notable attendees included Director Gope Shahani, management representative Chindhu Antony, principal Dr. Anand R Nair, and vice-principals Radhika Rele and Edna Fernandez.
BPS Pi Nova – 2026 was organised by the school’s Department of Mathematics under the theme “Exploring Logic, Inspiring Innovation, Celebrating Mathematics.” The competition commenced with a preliminary round on September 26, which attracted 135 students from 17 Indian schools in Qatar. The top five teams from each category—Junior, Intermediate, and Senior—progressed to the Grand Finale.
The final event comprised three stages: an individual written test, a team relay round, and a live stage rapid quiz. These rounds evaluated participants on various aspects, including mathematical knowledge, logical reasoning, analytical skills, teamwork, speed, and accuracy. The structure aimed to provide an engaging and comprehensive assessment of the students' capabilities.
At the conclusion of the competition, a prize distribution ceremony recognised the top-performing schools and individual talents. In the Junior Category, Ideal Indian School secured first place, Birla Public School finished second, and DPS Modern Indian School took third. For the Intermediate Category, DPS Modern Indian School earned first place, followed by Podar Pearl School in second and Birla Public School in third. In the Senior Category, the first position was awarded to DPS Modern Indian School, with Birla Public School and DPS Monarch International School placing second and third, respectively.
In addition to the team awards, the “Logic Legend of BPS Pi Nova 2026” individual award was presented in each category to honour students who demonstrated exceptional problem-solving abilities and intellectual excellence.
The event was led by Shibumon Pullat Shahul, head of the Department of Mathematics at Birla Public School, with support from the Mathematics Department faculty. The competition highlighted the strong emphasis placed on fostering mathematical talent and critical thinking skills among students in Qatar’s Indian school community.
