Brackley Town secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Spennymoor Town on Saturday, a result that lifted the home side three places in the league standings while leaving Spennymoor at the bottom of the table after another defeat.
The match, played at Brackley’s home ground, saw the hosts take the lead in the 18th minute following a well-executed move. O’Shea Ellis demonstrated sharp vision to set up Fin Roberts, who finished clinically past Spennymoor goalkeeper Matt Urwin. Despite a defensive miscommunication in Brackley’s penalty area shortly afterward, the visitors were unable to capitalize as their attempt was cleared. Brackley nearly doubled their advantage when Ellis attempted an overhead kick that just missed.
Spennymoor responded in the 35th minute, with Jack Jenkins driving forward and delivering an impressive finish into the corner of the net to level the score. Both teams created opportunities before halftime, including a notable combination between Ellis and Tahvon Campbell for Brackley that forced Urwin into a strong save.
The second half remained balanced until Brackley regained the lead in the 68th minute. Substitute DJ Sturridge and Kieran Coates orchestrated a play culminating in Sturridge’s powerful strike beyond Urwin’s reach. Following the goal, Spennymoor pressed for an equalizer, with Glen Taylor shooting wide, Darren Palmer firing over the bar, and Finlay Holcroft narrowly missing a volley. Ben Beals also challenged the Brackley defense with a header that was well saved by goalkeeper Harrison Rhone.
Brackley’s ability to withstand late pressure secured their win, providing a boost in the standings, while Spennymoor must look to improve as they remain at the foot of the table.
