Preston North End secured a 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at the Valley, ending their run without an away win since early January. The Championship contest saw Charlton take an early lead through Joe Rankin-Costello before Preston fought back with goals from Lewis Dobbin and Brad Potts.

Charlton opened the match with intensity, nearly scoring inside the first minute when captain Greg Docherty’s volley went just over the bar. Shortly after, a long throw from Charlton’s Sonny Carey was unintentionally flicked on by Preston striker Daniel Jebbison, allowing Rankin-Costello to volley home from close range and put the hosts ahead.

Preston responded in the 25th minute when Dobbin, on loan from Aston Villa, converted his eighth league goal of the season with a header from a precise cross delivered by Potts. The equalizer shifted the momentum heading into halftime.

The winning goal arrived in the 65th minute, originating from a counterattack. Dobbin advanced quickly before passing to Potts, who finished low past Charlton goalkeeper Will Mannion. This marked Potts’ second league goal of the season and proved decisive for Preston.

Charlton pressed toward the end in search of an equalizer. However, Preston defender Lewis Gibson made a crucial late tackle to deny striker Lyndon Dykes a clear opportunity in the penalty area, effectively securing the victory for the visitors.

The result extends Charlton’s home losing streak to three matches, while offering Preston a much-needed boost as they seek to improve their away form.
