A confrontation occurred Thursday evening between Brahmanbaria-2 Member of Parliament Rumeen Farhana and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Monjur Kader Bhuiyan regarding allegations of security lapses and police misconduct. The exchange took place around 8:00 p.m. at the police station, drawing attention from local residents who had raised complaints about police behavior. Videos capturing parts of the interaction were later shared on social media.

Rumeen Farhana alleged that she was denied personal police protection during her visits to Durga Puja mandaps in Sarail, despite receiving security arrangements in neighboring Bijoynagar and Ashuganj upazilas. She criticized the OC for what she described as discourteous conduct toward an elected parliamentarian and questioned his political affiliations. The situation escalated when local resident Unda Mia accused the OC of accepting Tk 30,000 from him. Unda Mia additionally claimed that police officers assaulted and detained him following a visit to the station related to a case involving a relative before he was sent to court.

Mohammad Monjur Kader Bhuiyan and other officers at the station denied the allegations, with the OC stating he was unfamiliar with the complainant. Rumeen also accused the OC of collecting money from businesses involved in sand and soil extraction and brick kiln operations, and alleged he maintained close ties with local Awami League leaders. The OC refuted these claims, asserting his participation was limited to official state events and questioning the brick kiln accusations by noting large parts of the local haor region remain submerged seasonally.

As tensions rose, a crowd gathered, chanting for the OC’s removal. Monjur Kader Bhuiyan described the situation as "mob-like," blaming Rumeen for orchestrating the accusations and the crowd. He said that while police had provided general protection during Durga Puja festivities, they lacked sufficient personnel to assign a dedicated security team to the MP and noted she needed to apply through the Superintendent of Police’s office for personal security arrangements.

Rumeen Farhana maintained that, as an elected lawmaker, she is entitled to VIP status and special protocol under the state’s “Warrant of Precedence” and the administration’s “Red Book.” She said the Sarail OC did not respond to her calls and suggested that local residents should provide her security, which led to thousands accompanying her during visits. She added that her intent in visiting the station was to seek clarification about the allegations of irregularities and corruption directed at the OC.
