Braintree Town has received a £375,000 payment following the transfer of former striker Kyrell Lisbie from Peterborough United to Millwall. The National League South club is benefiting from a 12.5% sell-on clause included in Lisbie’s previous transfer agreement.

Lisbie, who was signed by Peterborough United from Braintree last summer, had an impressive season at League One level, scoring 14 goals in 51 appearances. His performances earned him a move to Championship side Millwall in a deal reportedly valued at around £3 million.

The infusion of funds comes at a critical time for Braintree, as the club also expects additional financial support from FIFA due to the participation of defender Tommy Smith with New Zealand at the recent World Cup. These combined payments are understood to have enabled Braintree Town to resolve the transfer embargo that had been imposed on the club.

The sell-on clause and external funding illustrate how smaller clubs can benefit from the progression of their former players, providing vital resources ahead of the new season.
