Russell Brand, the British comedian and actor, is currently on trial at Southwark Crown Court facing multiple charges including rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault. The allegations relate to incidents involving six women between 1999 and 2009. Brand denies all the charges.

During the trial, several witnesses have described Brand’s behavior as having an intense and uncontrollable sexual appetite. Helen Berger, Brand’s former personal assistant who worked with him between 2006 and 2007, testified that working for him was extremely difficult. She stated that Brand frequently discussed his sexual desires openly and often appeared dissatisfied after sexual encounters, though she did not witness any illegal activity. Berger described Brand as attracting women constantly and behaving like a “peacock,” sometimes appearing only in his underwear at work. She recounted an occasion when Brand was interviewed by actress Sadie Frost while dressed only in his underwear and an open robe. Berger said she quit after nine months, citing emotional exhaustion and burnout.

One alleged victim, a woman in her 20s who was working for MTV at the time, accused Brand of forcing her into a toilet cubicle at Nordic Bar in Soho in 2004, where he allegedly compelled her to perform a sexual act. The woman’s sister told the court she noticed her sibling was “very subdued” and “not her usual self” the day after the incident, and that her sister described Brand’s eyes as “completely blank” and "possessed," indicating a very different demeanor from his normal self. The victim reportedly first revealed the full extent of what happened after seeing media coverage about Brand in 2023.

Other testimonies at the trial included accounts of Brand’s associates allegedly encouraging misconduct. One witness described an incident during a recording session where Brand allegedly forced a woman to give him a massage, during which he assaulted her while others watched and laughed. The woman’s manager and colleagues confirmed she was distressed by the event, characterizing the session as chaotic.

In response to the allegations, some witnesses indicated that Brand’s inappropriate behavior was often normalized by those around him, but no direct evidence of criminal conduct was observed by his former assistant. The prosecution is presenting the case that Brand used his celebrity status to exploit and abuse women, while the defense maintains his innocence.

The trial remains ongoing as additional evidence and testimonies are heard.
