A five-year-old girl from Ipswich, Suffolk, contacted emergency services after finding her mother unconscious on the kitchen floor. Sydnie Rigby, 28, who lives with her daughters Sienna, five, and Daisy, one, suffers from postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition that can cause dizziness and fainting.
Sydnie had noticed her symptoms worsening in late August and proactively taught Sienna how to call 999 in case of an emergency. Just a week later, when Sydnie suddenly lost consciousness, Sienna took immediate action.
During the emergency call, Sienna calmly described her mother’s condition, notably saying, “Her eyes are wiggling,” a detail that helped emergency responders assess the situation. Sydnie’s next memory was waking up to paramedics shining lights in her eyes.
Following the incident, Sydnie expressed pride in her daughter’s composure and confidence during the call, noting that those involved were impressed by Sienna’s response. In recognition of her bravery, Sienna received an award at school, highlighting the significance of her quick thinking during a critical moment.
