Breast reduction and implant removal procedures have surpassed breast enlargements for the first time, according to the latest annual audit by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). In 2025, 4,761 breast augmentation surgeries were recorded, representing an 8% decrease from the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of breast reductions reached 4,673, and implant removals totaled 847, signaling a notable shift in patient preferences.

Experts attribute this change largely to evolving lifestyle trends, with a growing emphasis on comfort and active living. The rise of form-fitting "athleisure" clothing has also influenced patients’ choices, encouraging procedures that align with a more natural silhouette. BAAPS president Nora Nugent noted that the data reflects "a broader shift away from exaggerated curves towards a more natural silhouette, one that better complements active lifestyles and the continued rise of athleisure fashion."

Nugent also pointed to a rise in labiaplasty procedures, which increased by 6% last year. This surgery, designed to alter the size or shape of the labia, is reportedly driven by patients seeking relief from discomfort during exercise and concerns about visibility in tight-fitting gym wear.

Facial surgery continues to grow in popularity, with several procedures seeing increased demand. Among these, brow lifts experienced a significant rise of 27%. Dr. Anil Joshi, a consultant ENT and facial plastic surgeon, said patients are increasingly opting for subtle changes, expressing a preference for results that appear natural rather than obvious. He added that while breast enlargements remain common, motivations have evolved. "Women typically talk now more about lifestyle than cup size," Joshi said, suggesting that implant removals reflect changes associated with new life stages rather than regret over previous surgeries.

Overall, women accounted for 93.9% of cosmetic procedures in 2025, with 25,217 operations carried out—a 2% decline compared to 2024. The total number of cosmetic treatments performed was 26,840, reflecting a modest downward trend.

Among men, facial procedures have gained prominence, with eyelid surgery becoming the most performed treatment in this group for the first time. In 2025, 346 eyelid surgeries were conducted on male patients, marking an 8% increase and surpassing rhinoplasty, which fell 18% to 273 procedures.

These shifts underscore a broader evolution in cosmetic surgery priorities, with greater focus on natural aesthetics and functionality aligning with individuals’ changing lifestyles and preferences.
