Brentford manager Keith Andrews has expressed cautious optimism following the team’s strong start to the new season. The Bees have impressed in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, scoring a total of nine goals across their first two matches. Their campaign began with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, followed by a commanding 6-0 win against Birmingham City in the cup competition — marking Brentford's best ever league start with back-to-back wins.

Andrews, 45, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus as Brentford prepare to face Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday. “The boys are in a good place. We’ve worked really hard to get into that place,” he said. “But the game gives you absolutely nothing — you’ve got to go on and earn it. That will be no different on Sunday. We’ll come up against a really good side — competitive, aggressive — and Elland Road brings its own challenges.”

Last season, Brentford narrowly missed out on qualifying for European competition, losing out on goal difference. Since Andrews took the helm, the club has invested heavily in the squad, surpassing £100 million in summer transfer spending, highlighted by the signing of El Hadji Malick Diouf. Andrews noted that the previous season was focused on “stabilisation, regrouping and building a new team, new dynamics and trust.”

Looking ahead, he indicated that the current campaign is built on that foundation, bolstered by fresh talent to add depth and manage player fitness as the team pursues continuous improvement. “We’ve got a really good foundation and added some really good players that give us that depth to freshen things up and look after players — but it doesn’t change the outlook to keep pushing.”

Brentford’s match at Leeds is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
