Emilie Heeks, a 26-year-old make-up artist from Pershore, Worcestershire, lost eight stone over nine months to fit into her ideal wedding dress. At her heaviest, Heeks weighed 17 stone 12 pounds and wore a size 22. Following a proposal from her boyfriend Ollie, she committed to a significant lifestyle change aimed at improving her physical and mental well-being.
Heeks joined the Slimming World program in January 2018 and steadily lost weight, reaching 9 stone 12 pounds and a size eight by October of the same year. She attributed her weight gain partly to unhealthy eating habits and a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease. Prior to her transformation, her diet often included high-calorie meals such as bacon rolls, chicken bakes with chips, takeaways like pizza and curry, and full-fat soft drinks.
“I knew I had to do something to stop piling on the weight,” Heeks said, emphasizing her preference to avoid injections or pills and instead pursue a sustainable lifestyle change. Her approach involved adopting healthier cooking methods for her favorite foods and increasing physical activity, including running up to 12 miles per week and weekend walks with her fiancé.
Heeks reached her weight goal several months before her wedding to Ollie, a 25-year-old plasterer, in May 2018. She described the event as a confidence-boosting milestone and noted the positive impact her weight loss had on their shared lifestyle, including a greater willingness to socialize and engage in regular exercise.
Reflecting on her journey, Heeks remarked on the significant personal transformation the process brought about. “When I look at my photographs, I can hardly believe the change. It was the perfect motivation,” she said.
