Bridlington ended Garforth’s unbeaten start to the season in a closely contested FA Trophy match on Saturday. The home side, known as the Seasiders, took an early lead just four minutes into the game when Ben Tweed converted a free-kick.
Following the opener, Bridlington maintained significant offensive pressure. They struck the post during one attempt and saw another goal disallowed due to offside. Garforth fought back shortly after the break, with James Burgess scoring his fourth goal in as many games to level the score.
The game remained tense, with Bridlington regaining the lead from the penalty spot around the 60-minute mark. Garforth responded by pressing aggressively, resulting in veteran defender Sam Denton scoring an equalizer in the final minute of regular time.
The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Bridlington prevailed 5-4, handing Garforth their first defeat of the season. The victory allowed Bridlington to progress further in the competition while ending the early unbeaten run of their opponents.
