Brighton & Hove Albion secured a shock victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, overturning an early deficit to claim the upset at Old Trafford.

The match began with Manchester United taking the lead when Marcus Rashford broke through Brighton’s defense, his initial low shot saved by goalkeeper Jason Steele. However, Mason Mount was quick to react, drilling the rebound into the net to open the scoring. This marked Mount’s first goal since December 2025, an achievement that visibly frustrated Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on the sidelines.

Despite falling behind, Brighton gradually gained momentum and maintained their determination throughout the contest. Malick Yalcouye had an opportunity to equalize but missed the target after a clear breakaway. Nevertheless, the visitors kept pressing and were rewarded just before halftime. Jaouen Hadjam delivered a precise diagonal pass that split the United defense, allowing Charalampos Kostoulas to fire a low shot past United goalkeeper Karl Darlow and bring the scores level.

The second half saw Brighton continue to challenge United’s defense. Following a clearance by Diogo Dalot, Luka Vuskovic headed the ball back into play, where Pascal Gross controlled it skillfully before curling a shot low past Darlow to put Brighton ahead. Kostoulas then embarked on a run down the right side of the penalty area, his cross finding Maxim De Cuyper who calmly finished to extend Brighton’s lead.

United struggled to regain control as Brighton turned the match on its head, prompting frustration and boos from the Old Trafford crowd. The Seagulls’ relentless pressure and effective finishing ultimately secured a memorable victory, advancing them further in the Carabao Cup at the expense of the home side.
