A British man whose newlywed wife remains missing following a devastating flood in Nepal has shared the last words exchanged between them before the disaster struck. Pramod Poudel, 34, last spoke with his wife, Sumitra, 25, early Wednesday morning at 4:15 a.m. UK time, just moments before a glacier collapse triggered a torrent of water, ice, and mud along the Nepal-Tibet border. The disaster has caused hundreds of fatalities and left thousands unaccounted for.

Sumitra, along with Pramod’s mother, brother, and uncle, all residents of the village of Sole, have not been located since the catastrophe obliterated the area. Pramod, a food truck owner from Uckfield, East Sussex, was born and raised in Sole before moving to the United Kingdom at age 18. Following the disaster, he traveled back to Nepal on Friday and commenced a search through the devastated village in hopes of finding his family.

Speaking about his last conversation with Sumitra, Pramod recalled her saying, “How are you? I love you so much.” Since that call, contact has been lost. He described the situation as “devastating” and expressed deep concern and uncertainty about their whereabouts. “I’m so worried about her, and all my family. I work so hard for them and they are my whole world,” he said. Despite the distress, he conveyed cautious optimism, stating, “I’m very hopeful of finding them but I’m also praying to God.”

The flood, caused by a sudden glacier collapse, has resulted in widespread destruction and a significant humanitarian crisis in the region. Rescue operations continue as authorities and affected families grapple with the scale of the disaster. Pramod’s ongoing search underscores the personal toll experienced by many who have seen their homes and loved ones lost amid the tragedy.
