Producers of the television talent competition Britain’s Got Talent are reportedly planning a special 20th anniversary edition featuring the return of several former judges and contestants. The ITV show, which first aired in 2007, is aiming to bring back familiar faces to mark the milestone, including broadcaster Piers Morgan and singer Susan Boyle.
Simon Cowell, the show’s long-standing judge and creator, has recently stepped back from several scheduled appearances due to a recent back operation. In his absence, Bradley Walsh has been enlisted to cover the Blackpool auditions this month. Meanwhile, discussions are underway to have Piers Morgan join Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and KSI on the judging panel during the upcoming January auditions.
Morgan served as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent during its early years, from 2007 until 2010, before departing to pursue a US talk show. Alongside Morgan’s potential return, the show’s producers are also considering including notable past contestants to participate in the live stages of the competition later this year. Among those mentioned are Paul Potts, the winner of the inaugural series, and Susan Boyle, who finished as runner-up in 2009 and achieved worldwide fame following her appearance.
Sources close to the production described plans for a "20th anniversary extravaganza" designed to celebrate the programme’s history by reconnecting with influential personalities from its past. The intended format would see Piers Morgan rejoining the panel as a guest judge during the audition phase, with former acts making appearances in the live shows.
This approach follows previous anniversary celebrations, such as the 10th anniversary in 2017, which featured performances by former contestants like Diversity and Stavros Flatley. The coming edition is expected to similarly spotlight iconic moments and participants from the show’s two-decade run, appealing to long-term fans and new viewers alike. ITV has not yet confirmed an official schedule or full lineup for the anniversary series.
