A 28-year-old British mountaineer died after falling nearly 200 feet while descending Torre Cerredo, one of the highest peaks in Spain. The incident occurred on Thursday near the summit of the mountain, which rises to 8,690 feet (2,650 meters) and is the tallest point in the northern Picos de Europa range.

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 1:30 p.m., and the climber was declared dead at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to Llanera, a town located near the Asturian cities of Oviedo and Gijon. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased. Details regarding who raised the alarm or whether the climber was alone or accompanied were not immediately available.

This fatality follows closely on the heels of another recent tragedy in northern Spain, where a 71-year-old Norwegian hiker died on the Cares Trail, a well-known trekking route. The Norwegian lost his balance while attempting to put on a heavy backpack and fell down a bank, resulting in his death.
