A 63-year-old British paraglider died in Catalonia, Spain, after reportedly colliding with electrical cables while flying near the village of Palau de Noguera. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, with emergency services responding shortly after being alerted at 1:20 p.m.
Firefighters dispatched three crews to the scene, where they administered first aid until paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, the man later succumbed to his injuries. The regional police also attended the site as part of the response. While local media reported that the paraglider appeared to have fallen onto electrical wires before striking the ground, the authorities have not yet confirmed the precise cause of the accident.
It remains unclear whether the deceased was a resident of Spain or visiting at the time. The United Kingdom's Foreign Office stated that it is providing support to the family following the incident.
Northern Catalonia, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, is known for its popularity with paragliding and other adventure sports. The region has recently seen similar incidents; notably, another fatal paragliding accident occurred in Åger, within the same area, just last month. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these events.
