A British intelligence officer, Major Paul Wilks, died in a road accident in Ukraine on September 12, the Ministry of Defence confirmed. The 40-year-old officer was involved in a traffic crash away from active combat zones during his deployment.

Commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2012, Major Wilks served in the Intelligence Corps throughout his military career. He completed several deployments, including tours in Afghanistan, and was awarded two Operational Service Medals in recognition of his service.

His commanding officer described him as a person of considerable intellect who maintained strong camaraderie with his fellow soldiers. Major Wilks’s death marks a loss to the British armed forces amid ongoing international efforts and operations in Ukraine. The Ministry of Defence has not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the accident.
