A British woman was fatally stabbed in a hotel in southern Portugal during a family holiday, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the Alfagar Alto Da Colina, a four-star hotel in the Algarve resort of Albufeira.

The 34-year-old woman died after reportedly being attacked with scissors in a corridor outside a hotel room. The assault took place around 6:45 p.m., according to local sources. Her husband, also British, has been arrested and remains in custody. The couple’s young daughter, who was close by at the time, sustained an apparent leg injury and was found in a distressed state near the scene.

Portuguese officials indicated that a domestic dispute broke out between the couple inside a room on the hotel’s second floor before the fatal stabbing. The woman is said to have fled into the corridor, where she succumbed to her injuries. The child, who was due to celebrate her fourth birthday on Wednesday, has since been placed into temporary care.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack. No further information about the condition of the child or the motive for the stabbing has been released. Local law enforcement confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide.
