Alan Yentob, the former BBC executive and presenter, left an estate valued at £3.1 million to his wife, Philippa Walker, according to court records made public recently. Yentob passed away in May 2025 at the age of 78 following a cancer diagnosis.

Yentob and Walker married in 2020 after being in a relationship for approximately 40 years. The couple had two children, Jacob and Bella. Walker, a television producer, inherited the entire sum of Yentob’s wealth, as documented in probate filings.

Yentob’s career at the BBC began in 1968 when he joined the corporation’s trainee scheme as its only recruit that year without an Oxbridge background. Over the years, he rose quickly through the ranks, becoming head of music and arts by 1985. He later served as controller of BBC1 starting in 1993. Beyond his executive roles, Yentob was a familiar face to television audiences as the presenter of the BBC arts series Imagine, a position he held from 2003 until shortly before his death.

Reflecting on their life together, Walker described Yentob as a person full of curiosity, creativity, and unpredictability. In a statement, she said, “Every day with Alan held the promise of something unexpected. Our life was exciting, he was exciting. He was curious, funny, annoying, late and creative in every cell of his body.”

Yentob’s contributions to British broadcasting, particularly in the arts, were widely recognized during his career. His passing marked the end of a significant era at the BBC, where he was known both for his leadership roles and on-screen presence.
