Two men are accused of fatally shooting a Bronx resident after allegedly using a GPS tracking device to stalk him, authorities said. The incident occurred outside the victim’s home on April 13, 2025.

Jeremy Ortega, 24, was reportedly targeted by Welfy Espinal, 25, and Lenyn Toribio, 27, following a social media post in which Ortega displayed diamond jewelry. According to law enforcement officials, the two suspects, both of whom had previous personal connections to Ortega, planted a GPS tracker on his vehicle to monitor his movements. The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed this detail as part of the ongoing investigation.

Espinal was arrested on Friday, while Toribio remains at large. The two men allegedly confronted Ortega in front of his mother, robbing and then shooting him.

Relatives described Ortega and Espinal as childhood friends who “would do everything” together, while Ortega’s sister Brianna noted that her brother had met Toribio more recently. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive beyond jealousy linked to Ortega’s displayed wealth.

Law enforcement continues to search for Toribio and has urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. The case remains under active investigation as prosecutors prepare for potential charges.
