Brooke Guest’s maiden List A century propelled Derbyshire Falcons to a 44-run victory over Glamorgan in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Repton School on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman remained unbeaten on 108 from 82 balls, while Caleb Jewell contributed a vital 84 to help the Falcons post a formidable total of 315 for 5. Glamorgan struggled to keep up in the chase, finishing on 271, with Nick Potts taking four wickets for 39 runs, his best figures in List A cricket.

After winning the toss, Glamorgan elected to field first on a ground known for high-scoring matches. Derbyshire’s innings was bolstered by Jewell’s return to the Metro Bank side. Opening the batting, Jewell and Guest formed a crucial partnership that steadily increased the run rate on the quick outfield. Jewell appeared set for another century at Repton but was dismissed after an 18-over stand of 115 when he edged a catch to cover off Zain Ul-Hassan. Guest continued to dominate, reaching his hundred off 79 balls and hitting a six off the final delivery to close the innings.

Glamorgan’s reply began positively, with Zain Ul-Hassan hitting a six off Rory Haydon. However, the innings faltered when Ben Aitchison took two quick wickets, removing Eddie Byrom and Callum Nicholls for a combined 3 runs, reducing Glamorgan to 36 for 2. Ul-Hassan steadied the chase with a run-a-ball 61, but his dismissal sweeping to Jack Morley in the 23rd over further hampered Glamorgan's momentum.

Despite a resilient 65-run partnership between Jack Hope-Bell and Alex Horton, Glamorgan were unable to keep pace with the asking rate. Hope-Bell’s dismissal via a top-edge pull shot to mid-on further diminished their chances. Horton fought on with an aggressive display, striking three sixes before edging behind off Potts to end the innings.

In addition to his four-wicket haul, Potts provided the decisive final blow to Glamorgan’s chase, while Dan Douthwaite contributed with three wickets earlier in the innings. His early breakthroughs had put Glamorgan under immediate pressure, ending the innings at 271 for 8.

The defeat extended Glamorgan’s losing streak to four matches in the competition, while Derbyshire secured an important win, strengthened by key performances from both their batsmen and bowlers.
