DALLAS — Mikko Rantanen scored a hat trick, including the game-winning power-play goal in overtime, to lead the Dallas Stars to a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center.

The Bruins, who concluded an 11-day road trip with seven points out of a possible eight, suffered their first loss since sweeping the California stretch. Despite the setback, Boston showcased strong play throughout the trip, including a notable first period against Dallas.

Boston opened the scoring when Matt Poitras converted a feed from Frederic Brunet, beating Stars goalie Jake Oettinger on the blocker side. The goal marked Poitras’s fourth of the season and underscored his continued impact from the Bruins’ fourth-line center position.

Rantanen responded early in the second period by tipping in a rebound at close range. Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman made the initial save, but after dislodging the puck, Jason Robertson allowed Rantanen to capitalize and even the score at 1-1. Later in the period, James Hagens restored Boston’s lead with his third goal of the season. Casey Mittelstadt maneuvered around the Dallas defense behind the net before finding Hagens in front, who managed to outposition Miro Heiskanen, one of the league's top defenders.

Rantanen tied the game again with just over six minutes left in regulation. A rebound caromed off a defender's leg directly to the Stars forward, who quickly fired it past Swayman to level the contest at 2-2.

In overtime, Rantanen seized another rebound opportunity during a power play and scored the decisive goal, securing the win for Dallas.

The Bruins also received a boost on their blue line with the return of Nikita Zadorov, who rejoined the defensive corps during the game. Swayman finished with 22 saves for Boston, while Oettinger made key stops for Dallas.

The Stars improved their record with the victory, while the Bruins prepared to continue what has been a productive road trip despite the narrow loss.
