Bryan Adams’ 1984 rock anthem "Summer of ’69" has been voted the top summer tune in a recent poll commissioned by Topgolf. The song received 27% of the votes, narrowly surpassing "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, which garnered 25%. Both The Beatles’ "Here Comes the Sun" and The Beach Boys’ "Good Vibrations" were tied in third place with 22% of the votes each.

The survey reflected the significant role music plays in mood and social experiences, with nearly nine in 10 adults reporting they have a particular song that lifts their spirits. Additionally, 45% of respondents said that enjoying music with loved ones enhances their experience, while 59% believe that an effective playlist can transform any gathering into a lively event.

Dr. Manuel Anglada-Tort, a psychology lecturer at Goldsmiths University of London, commented on the characteristics that define popular summer hits. According to him, these songs typically feature faster tempos, upbeat rhythms, and memorable, repetitive melodies. These musical elements are effective in evoking positive emotions such as happiness, excitement, and a sense of freedom—feelings often associated with warm weather and outdoor activities.

The poll underscores how certain songs become emblematic of a season and the universal impact music has in enhancing social and emotional well-being during summer months.
