Bryan Mbeumo has expressed his willingness to play in any position required by Manchester United as the club prepares for the upcoming season. The forward scored twice in United’s 2-1 comeback victory over Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly held in Stockholm on Saturday.

Since joining Manchester United last summer, Mbeumo has primarily featured on the right wing but was deployed as a striker in this match. Reflecting on his adaptability, Mbeumo said he feels fortunate to be able to perform well in both roles, noting success on the right wing as well as in the striker position.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick emphasised the importance of versatility within his squad. He praised the team’s flexibility and resilience in overcoming an early goal from Atletico Madrid’s Arnau Ortiz. “It’s part of learning and development,” Carrick commented. “As much as we are getting ready for the season to start, it’s a long season and we’re going to have to overcome some challenges and adapt at certain times. It’s such a good group to work with, they want to learn and listen.”

The match also featured a milestone for 15-year-old JJ Gabriel, who made his first senior appearance after scoring 26 goals in 26 games during the previous Under-18 Premier League season. Gabriel came on late in the game to replace Mbeumo. His performance earned praise from centre-back Leny Yoro, who described Gabriel as a “really good player” and expressed hope that he will continue to earn playing time at senior level.

The pre-season fixture highlighted Manchester United’s focus on developing a flexible squad capable of meeting the demands of a long and challenging campaign. Both experienced players like Mbeumo and emerging talents such as Gabriel are expected to contribute as the season progresses.
