The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has imposed disciplinary action on Assistant Director Md Ibrahim Ali following an internal investigation that found him guilty of professional misconduct and a breach of confidentiality. While lifting his suspension, the commission withheld his annual increment for one year as a penalty.
The incident in question occurred on March 4, 2026, when Ibrahim Ali issued an unauthorized letter concerning the appointment of independent directors at Navana Pharma. This took place amid an ongoing complaint related to the company’s board. The investigation revealed that the letter was released without the approval of senior officials.
Further scrutiny showed that Ibrahim Ali met on the same afternoon with Md Aminul Huq Bhuiyan, the acting company secretary of Navana Pharmaceuticals, outside the BSEC office near Dhaka’s Agargaon Passport Office. During this meeting, Ibrahim Ali handed over the unauthorized letter and permitted Bhuiyan to take a photograph of it, actions that violated official protocols and confidentiality regulations.
As a result, BSEC suspended Ibrahim Ali on April 1, 2026, and initiated departmental proceedings against him. Although the misconduct could have warranted more severe sanctions, including dismissal, the commission opted for a less stringent measure during its meeting on September 29.
In reaching this decision, the regulators took into account Ibrahim Ali’s written confession, his unconditional apology, and a pledge to prevent future infractions. Accordingly, the BSEC reinstated him to his position, granted full salary and allowances during the suspension period, and withheld his annual increment for one year.
