England winger Bukayo Saka has confirmed he is fit and prepared to contribute in the team’s upcoming World Cup quarter-final against Norway. The Arsenal forward has been managing an Achilles injury throughout the tournament but said he is now feeling strong and ready to play.
Saka acknowledged that while he would have preferred to enter the competition fully fit, his gradual increase in playing time reflects careful management by the coaching staff. "My minutes have been building," he said. "Of course, I would love to come into this tournament 100 percent, but that wasn’t the case and everyone realised that and they’ve managed me in the best way possible. But right now I’m feeling great and ready to go."
So far in the tournament, Saka has yet to complete a full 90 minutes for England. Nevertheless, he remains focused on adapting to the specific demands of each match rather than individual playing time. “Each game has been unique for me, but my mindset doesn’t change. I just try and do what the game needs, whether it needs a goal, whether it needs the team to defend, whatever it needs,” he said.
Saka provided an assist for Jude Bellingham’s opening goal in England’s pivotal Round of 16 victory over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, a win hailed as a historic achievement for the team. However, he emphasized the importance of moving forward and keeping emotions in check ahead of the clash in Miami. “We discussed that we need to put the emotions behind us now. We took in all the praise and everything but now we need to focus on Norway,” he noted.
England will face Norway tomorrow as they seek to advance further in their pursuit of World Cup success. Saka’s availability and form will be crucial components in the team’s preparations for the quarter-final match.
