Bukayo Saka remains a key fitness concern for England ahead of their upcoming World Cup match against Ghana. The Arsenal winger has been managing an ongoing Achilles issue that has limited his ability to train fully with the squad at their base in Kansas City. While Saka has not been participating in regular group sessions, he has followed a personal fitness program and is anticipated to be available for Tuesday’s game in Boston.
Saka himself acknowledged the risks involved, describing his decision to play as a “gamble” given his current condition. Despite his limited training, England manager Thomas Tuchel expressed confidence in the player’s readiness, suggesting that Saka will continue to improve as the tournament progresses. Tuchel noted that Saka’s availability fluctuated but indicated expectations for him to be fully fit by England’s final group match.
Alongside Saka, Marcus Rashford also faced fitness challenges, having sustained a sore hamstring during England’s previous match against Croatia. Rashford still trained with the team and came off the bench in that game, contributing positively. Both players are expected to have similar roles against Ghana, potentially coming on as substitutes to influence the match.
With England seeking to secure their place in the knockout phase, the management will monitor the fitness of key players like Saka and Rashford closely in the lead-up to the contest.
