A passenger on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Red Line train was injured Sunday morning when a bullet from a nearby shootout shattered a train window, sending glass shards into the individual’s face and body. The incident occurred around 8:47 a.m. near the first block of West 95th Street in the Roseland neighborhood.
According to police, the gunfire erupted among occupants of three vehicles traveling on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway. During the exchange, a stray bullet struck the train, breaking one of its windows. The 46-year-old male passenger was on board at the time and sustained injuries from the broken glass.
Emergency responders transported the man to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where officials reported that his condition was stable. No fatalities or other injuries have been reported related to the shootout.
The drivers involved in the shooting fled the scene before police arrived and have not been apprehended. Area 2 detectives are actively investigating the incident, seeking to identify and locate the suspects responsible for the gunfire. Authorities have not yet provided additional details about the motive behind the shooting or whether the vehicles were engaged in a targeted conflict.
