Simon Draper, head of the New South Wales Premier’s Department, will step down next month to take on a senior federal role. Draper is scheduled to leave his current position on September 4 and will assume the role of secretary of the federal Department of Industry, Science and Resources on October 6.

Draper has held prominent leadership roles across the state, including as chief executive of the Reconstruction Authority and Infrastructure NSW. His tenure at the Premier’s Department has been marked by close collaboration with Premier Chris Minns.

Premier Minns praised Draper’s leadership, describing him as “an outstanding leader” and a trusted advisor throughout his time in office. He also acknowledged Draper’s substantial contributions to the state’s administration and development.

Following Draper’s departure, Michael Coutts-Trotter, currently head of NSW Treasury, will serve as the acting secretary of the Premier’s Department until April 2027. This appointment ensures continuity in the department's leadership during the transitional period.
