Burgan Bank has concluded its month-long “Free Kuwait” campaign, commemorating the 36th anniversary of Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait and highlighting the resilience and national unity that defined the period. Launched under the theme “A Promise That Endures,” the campaign aimed to preserve Kuwait’s historical legacy while introducing younger generations to the courage and sacrifices made during one of the country’s most critical modern chapters.

Central to the initiative was a documentary titled Free Kuwait, produced in partnership with Senyar Group. The film features first-hand testimonies from individuals who experienced the invasion firsthand, recounting their personal efforts and collective national action that helped keep Kuwait’s cause visible on the global stage. The documentary highlights stories from media engagements to individual acts of bravery, converging around the shared goal of restoring Kuwait’s freedom.

Danah AlJasem, General Manager of Corporate Communications at Burgan Bank, emphasized the institution’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles that go beyond its core financial services. She stated that the campaign is designed not merely as a historical reminder but as a way to honor previous generations’ contributions and inspire continued national responsibility among Kuwaiti citizens.

The campaign incorporated a variety of outreach activities to ensure broad public engagement. The documentary was broadcast multiple times on Kuwait TV after being shared with the Ministry of Information, reaching a wide audience nationwide. It was also screened in local cinemas and at the American University of Kuwait, where students were given the opportunity to hear directly from those who lived through the invasion. Additionally, Burgan Bank organized a full-day event at 360 Mall to educate visitors on the significance of the Free Kuwait movement and its enduring symbolism.

Within bank branches, the campaign featured the distribution of commemorative Free Kuwait T-shirts, which preserved the original design from the 1990 movement, reinforcing a tangible connection between past and present. Burgan Bank employees also participated actively, donning commemorative items and contributing personal pledges to a dedicated wall of messages at the bank’s headquarters, which quickly filled with handwritten expressions of loyalty and remembrance.

In alignment with Kuwait’s wider financial literacy efforts, the campaign’s special-edition print supplement included reminders on safe banking practices, encouraging the public to protect their financial information and use authorized electronic platforms.

Throughout its duration, the Free Kuwait campaign amassed over 2.8 million digital views and more than 25,700 engagements across social media platforms such as Instagram, X, and YouTube via Burgan Bank’s channels. The initiative not only reaffirmed the bank’s role in preserving Kuwait’s collective memory but also fostered renewed national pride by connecting historical narratives with modern means of communication and engagement.
