Bury FC overturned an early deficit to secure a convincing 5-1 victory over Workington at Gigg Lane on Saturday. The visitors took an unexpected lead in the opening minutes when Workington full-back Joe Grayson capitalized on a misjudged corner by Bury goalkeeper Mitch Allen, volleying the Reds ahead.

Despite going behind, Bury created several opportunities to level the match in the first half. George Glendon, Owen Robinson, and Rustam Stepans each missed chances to score, while Workington’s Jake Allen came close with a saved shot and a strike that hit the post. The home side finally found the equalizer in the 39th minute when Kai Evans fired a low shot into the near bottom corner past Workington keeper Alex Mitchell.

Evans then doubled Bury’s advantage just before halftime, earning a penalty after being fouled in the box. He successfully converted from the spot, sending Mitchell the wrong way. The second half saw Workington press for a response, most notably when Luke Hunter’s shot was well saved by Allen, but Bury’s dominance continued.

Bury extended their lead through Mo Touray, who was set up by Owen Robinson and curled a precise strike into the top corner. Touray soon doubled his tally with another top-corner finish, giving the Shakers a commanding 4-1 advantage. The scoring was completed by substitute Rustam Stepans, who combined with fellow substitute James Melhado to finish a well-worked team move.

The win marked a strong second-half performance for Bury, overcoming an early setback to assert control over the remainder of the match. Workington were unable to match the home side’s attacking efficiency as Bury secured a comfortable three points.
