Eleven people were killed and 27 others injured Sunday in a collision between a coach and a tow truck in Manisa, western Turkiye, authorities said. The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that the bus was traveling from Bursa to Izmir when the crash occurred near the Akhisar motorway junction shortly after 11 a.m. local time (0800 GMT).

Emergency responders were dispatched promptly following the accident report, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi referred to the victims as “our citizens” in a post on the social media platform X, though it remains unclear whether all passengers were Turkish nationals or if any foreign nationals were involved.

The exact cause of the collision has yet to be determined. Manisa Governor Vahdettin Özkan said that investigation and recovery efforts at the scene continue under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office. He emphasized the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations, stating, “We are experiencing in a painful way just how vital it is to strictly adhere to traffic rules.”

Authorities have not released further details regarding the identities of those involved or the conditions of the injured. The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.
