A fatal crash at a New Jersey shore restaurant on Saturday left one person dead and seven others injured when a 93-year-old driver accidentally accelerated into an outdoor patio filled with diners.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. at Meg’s Grill in Lavallette, where the elderly driver of a Buick Encore reportedly intended to park but mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle surged into the dining area, striking patrons seated for brunch.

A 56-year-old woman from Toms River was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained minor injuries. Seven other individuals were transported to local hospitals with unspecified injuries. Authorities have not provided detailed updates on their conditions.

The structure of Meg’s Grill sustained no apparent damage, but a neighboring liquor store’s façade was harmed in the crash. No employees of the restaurant were reported injured.
