Dennis Bacon, a businessman with experience in adult social care and hospitality, is set to become the new chief executive of Norfolk County Council, a position with an annual salary of £215,000. The appointment follows the departure of former chief executive Tom McCabe earlier this year, shortly after the political party Reform assumed control of the council in May.

Mr. Bacon, 63, operates a bed and breakfast in Norwich and gained public attention last year by winning an episode of Channel 4’s reality show "Four in a Bed," which features competing B&B operators. His extensive career in adult social care includes nearly two decades as chair of the Norfolk Independent Care Association, an organization that represents over 600 care providers and employs around 11,000 staff in the region.

In addition to his work in social care and hospitality, Bacon has served on the Norfolk and Waveney Sustainability and Transformation Partnership, a collaborative network comprising local NHS entities and councils focused on public health and service integration. He has also been recognized by the council for his contributions to public service leadership, receiving an Outstanding Leadership in Public Services award.

The council’s full approval and standard pre-employment procedures are pending before Mr. Bacon’s appointment is finalized at an upcoming meeting scheduled for next week.
