Kuwait’s Cabinet has approved the country’s first comprehensive family protection program aimed at enhancing family stability and social welfare, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah announced on Tuesday. The initiative represents a coordinated government effort to bolster the family and child protection framework while addressing broader social challenges.
According to Dr. Al-Huwailah, the program is designed as a unified governmental approach involving multiple agencies across social, legal, health, educational, and security sectors. This collaborative structure seeks to improve coordination and intervention strategies for family protection. The initiative encompasses a total of 65 programs distributed among various ministries and authorities.
The Ministry of Justice leads with 24 programs, followed by nine from the Ministry of Social Affairs, seven from the Ministry of Education, and six from the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs. Additionally, the Ministries of Health, Islamic Affairs, and Interior will each contribute five initiatives. The Public Authority for Disability Affairs and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs are also slated to implement five initiatives apiece. The Ministries of Higher Education, Information, and Foreign Affairs will each undertake four programs.
Beyond program implementation, the family protection plan includes measures to enhance the efficiency of existing systems, update relevant legislation and policies, and promote digital transformation and institutional coordination. The program also supports initiatives aimed at raising awareness and providing psychological and social rehabilitation services.
Dr. Al-Huwailah emphasized that protecting families is a national priority and a fundamental element of Kuwait’s social development strategy. She noted that the program reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening family cohesion and improving the overall quality of life, aligning with the country’s broader social development objectives as directed by Kuwait’s political leadership and the Prime Minister.
