In other developments, the Cabinet commended Qatar’s strong performance in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook published by the International Institute for Management Development. Qatar was recognized as the leading country in the region and ranked among the world’s top five for economic resilience. It also topped global rankings in the balance of trade indicator and reported the lowest unemployment rate worldwide.
The Cabinet extended condolences to the families of victims following an accidental incident at a facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City that occurred on the evening of June 21, 2026. The event was attributed to a technical malfunction. Authorities expressed prayers for the deceased, wished a swift recovery to those injured, and praised the prompt and effective response by relevant agencies.
During its meeting, the Cabinet reviewed various agenda items, including noting the Shura Council’s approval of a draft law on food safety. The legislation, prepared by the Ministry of Public Health, seeks to ensure the safety and quality of food at every stage of the supply chain, enforce compliance with health standards, and provide adequate consumer protection against food-related risks.
The session concluded with a review of the 13th Annual Report on the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law’s work in 2025, as well as a report on Qatar’s participation in the 64th Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development held in New York in February 2026. The Cabinet took appropriate decisions based on these reports.
