Qatar’s Cabinet condemned a series of attacks targeting Gulf interests, including the recent assault on the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat, and approved a set of legislative and regulatory measures during its weekly meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, addressed the heightened regional tensions following attacks near the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi denounced the targeting of the Al Rekayyat as a serious breach of international maritime safety and a threat to energy security and regional stability. The Cabinet called on Iran to immediately cease such actions and emphasized Qatar’s right under international law to protect its assets.
The Cabinet also condemned an attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the same strategic waterway and criticized repeated Iranian actions against Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as clear violations of sovereignty that risk escalations in the region.
In addition to addressing security concerns, the Cabinet reviewed several legislative developments. The Shura Council recently approved a new Traffic bill, developed by the Ministry of Interior, aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic flow in response to infrastructure growth and evolving vehicle technologies.
The government also acknowledged parliamentary endorsement of an updated state property law, replacing the 1987 statute. The new legislation introduces a unified system for managing public and private state assets, designed to bolster government asset administration, protect public funds, prevent encroachments, and integrate property oversight with Qatar’s modern land registration system.
Furthermore, the Cabinet noted approval of a draft law on fuel station regulation, prepared by QatarEnergy. This law seeks to strengthen the regulatory framework governing fuel stations, clarifying the responsibilities of owners and operators regarding health and safety standards.
These measures form part of Qatar’s broader efforts to reinforce national security, improve governance, and support sustainable development amid ongoing regional challenges.
